WHAT WILL WE DO?
Standard Poodles Australia’s, Training – Habituation – Socilaisation – Gut Health - Independant Temperament and Structure Testing and Grooming Programs are what set us apart from other breeders. We are committed to your puppy being the best it can be!
TRAINING
Our training program starts at 3 days of age with Early Neurolical Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI). All puppies have human interaction all day which starts atb 5am and finishes at 10pm. Over the 10 weeks puppies are with us they follow a strict training reigime with 4 dedicated trainers to ensure they go to their new homes as advanced as they can possibly be.
Manding (asking for something with a look rather than jumping up), walking on unstable surfaces, plank and see-saw walking, tunnel play, balance boards, potty training, sit, shake hands, resource guarding, introduction to crate training, walking on a leash, sitting in front of people, grooming desensitisation, sounds like dogs barking and thunderstorms, raised with other dogs and much more.
Please see our tab Where Are They Now 2025 Litter for first night testimonials from our families.
INDEPENDENT TEMPERAMENT & STRUCTURE TESTING
Standard Poodles Australia have every Puppy independently temperament and structure tested at 7 & 8 Weeks of age to assess their suitability with individual families and what they are looking for in a puppy.
As breeders, living daily with our pups we can become biased in our own assessments so, we engage 2 independent experts to do extensive testing.
These tests assess
Response to unknown adults
Behaviour around food
Behaviour around toys
Frustration tolerance
Response to handling and being touched
Response to novel item
Response to sounds
Response to unknown dog
Response to unknown children
Response to outside / new environment
Response to movement
Response to tactile stimulation
HABITUATION
Pups are exposed to many different sounds initially by audio played at intervals during the day including, thunderstorms, traffic, children, other animal noises, doorbells, and fireworks.
Textures - including pebble surfaces, grass, concrete, imitation grass, and different textured mats.
Smells - including herbs, leaves, coffee, tea, and other daily smells they will encounter during their lives.
GUT HEALTH
A puppy’s gut health is set very early in their life. Feeding different Microbiota and starches sets the pups gut health for the rest of its life before that window closes. We introduce in very small amounts goat milk kefir, fermented vegetables, fermented fruits, and other probiotics. Finely mashed potato, organic oats and fine rice feed the microbiota. Pups that are raised with this are far more resistant to gut health issues such as irritable bowel syndrome. A breeder in the US who started using this technique has a litter of puppies that are now 16 years old. Puppies are all fed a 100% Raw Food Diet and are given different proteins each week including fresh chicken, duck, beef, turkey, lamb, and salmon. All the Raw Food Standard Poodles Australia uses is human grade fresh meat and contains fruits and vegetables and is AFFCO approved.
SOCIALISATION
During their time with us, puppies are introduced to different people who we have visit them. Strict hygiene practices are put in place and pups are introduced to people with hats, sunglasses, beards, and children. As the puppies get older, we have “Puppy Parties” where we invite selected people to participate in some training with them.
Puppies visit Pre-Schools and Aged Care Facilities while they are with us and the exposure has proved very beneficial for them. They go on car rides starting at 3 weeks of age and, in a push cart visit many Coffee Shops, Parks, Trains, Busses, Beaches and Shopping Centres to build their resilience. This is very beneficial to the puppy’s development.
GROOMING
From 2 weeks of age, all puppies have brushes, combs and clippers (with no blade) run over their body for 2 minutes, twice each day. They have their nails trimmed every few days from 1 week old.
This sets them up for their future grooming requirements. Puppies have their faces, tail butts and paws shaved from 3 weeks of age.
This is done weekly until they leave us. They are familiar with and will have had several baths, blow dry’s and coat conditioning while they are with us.
Feel free to email us with any questions in relation to any of the above.
